Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards

A few weeks back I went to Los Angeles for the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. I was nominated for Favorite Female Athlete of the year and was super excited to be on the ballot with the Williams’ sisters and Danica Patrick who ended up winning. So no slime and no blimp for me but it was an amazing event to experience.

I’ve been to red carpet events in the past and it’s always a really fun opportunity to get dressed up and trade my snowboarding boots for pair of heels and a fun dress for a night or two. I also love seeing snowboarding embraced by mainstream America and to be able to represent snowboarding in those arenas is really cool. But this was a totally different kind of red carpet event. For starters, the carpet was actually orange and the level of celebrity was much, much bigger than events I’ve been to in the past. When we were walking the orange carpet, I was right behind Selena Gomez and Ludacris and in front of Will Smith and his family, NBD. During the show we sat directly behind Taylor Swift and the entire casts of Twilight and The Hunger Games. Pretty amazing.

But the best part of the whole event was watching Michelle Obama give out the Big Help award to Taylor Swift and to see that the First Lady was clearly the biggest celebrity in the room. A standing ovation and watching Taylor Swift fan out on Michelle Obama was a cool contrast. Of course, since this event is geared towards kids and celebrity kids and what they’re into, it was really fun to see all the celebrity families having family fun times. Hopefully next year I’ll be back on the ballot and maybe go home with a blimp for snowboarding!

Extra special thanks to the people at Stila Cosmetics for always hooking it up and making me red or orange carpet ready!!
