Lemon-Aide: 5 Healing Powers of Lemons

Lemons. I love the smell, I love the taste, and I love the color because they’re bright and fun. Lemons are always one of the cheapest in the produce isle, but did you know lemons have many more benefits than simply freshening up your water? Check out how lemons can help heal bug bites, acne, lighten your hair, and more.

Hair Lightener
Instead of paying lots of money at a salon or opting to bleach your hair on your own, go the natural route with a lemon spritzer. Mix two squeezed lemons with water in a spray bottle and you’ve got one of the best kept secrets in hair color. The acidity in the lemons helps brighten your hair blonding your hair naturally and beautifully. If you already have blonde highlights the lemon will help brighten them back up.

Acne Treatment
The citric acid in lemons is a great acne fighter. Squeeze lemon juice onto a cotton ball and apply to breakouts. Let dry and leave overnight, rinsing away in the morning. The citric acid in the lemon juice helps to heal your skin faster, safer, and cheaper than most acne treatments.

Awaken Your Senses
Feeling sluggish? Light a lemon scented candle, sip some lemon tea or just inhale the smell from a piece of cut lemon. Research has shown that the scent of lemon helps reactivate your senses, releasing stress and tension. Who wouldn’t want that?

Bug Bites Be Gone
With the mosquitos and bees swarming right around now send them away with a spritze of lemon. Rub lemon oil or lemon juice on areas not covered by clothing to buzz bugs away without swatting your hand. If you already have a bite, heal it faster and relieve the itching with a dab of lemon on a cotton ball.

Help Indigestion
Feeling too full or just have a stomach ache? Mix one squeezed lemon with warm water and drink. The acidity in the lemons speeds up digestion relieving a queazy stomach.
