Alexis Roland: This used to be my playground
Posted on by Amanda Wormann

After spending all winter chasing snow, 12 year old Alexis Roland stopped by to update everyone on her season. One of her most recent trips was to a spot she shot at 3 years ago (yep, at 9 years old), which you may remember from Warren Miller’s Dynasty. Except this time rather than jumping through the swing set, she stepped it up a notch. Literally.
Check out what Alexis has to say about the shoot and get a sneak peek of her swing-set stall session.

I was in Tahoe in March and we were looking for fun stuff to shoot with First Tracks Productions. We decided to check out the park where I’d shot some things before. They took out a playground by a swing-set I jumped through and now there was a run-in for the first time. We decided to set a stall up for the top of the swing-set and use a bungee for the speed.

I was kind of nervous about it because I was afraid of hitting the side of the swing, but after a few tries it became easier.

It was neat coming back after 3 years and deciding to do something more tech on a feature I had hit before and doing something I had never even pictured doing before that day.

Getting the right speed was challenging. Not enough, and I’d slide under the top bar to the ground. One time, I had too much and went over the top to a flat landing. But, even though it was tricky, it was a lot of fun…

I like doing things outside the park because you can make it harder or easier depending on your skill. I also like it because it gets your adrenaline going especially if you haven’t seen anyone else do it and you have to go first. It also gives me a more accomplished feeling than most park features would.

I want to thank my dad for helping me build it and pulling back the bungee each time by himself!

Thanks for checking it out! -Alexis

3 years later, now 12, Alexis revisits the swing-set. Check out the teaser here.
