On The Road: The Movie

Celebrated king of the Beat Era, Jack Kerouac is an articulate loner whose stories have been woven into the lore of what it means to be a human, a young person, an American. If you’re like me, you’ve studied them closely as offbeat manuals on how to experience the world. Like, I know the Sierra Nevadas to be wild and starry-skied because of Dharma Bums. I know the Nor Cal coast to be raw and lonely because of Big Sur. I know love to be a stand off because of The Subterraneans, The Town And The City, On The Road … too more titles many to mention here.

The film adaptation of Kerouac’s preeminent road-trip story, On The Road, is set to release in the U.S. this fall, starring Kirsten Stewart and Sam Reilly. I’m so excited for this one! The trailer is below—let ’er rip!

P.S. Puleaaase use your summer vacation to read On The Road if you haven’t already. As the words drip like honey into your brain, think about the fact that Kerouac typed the entire book in three weeks on a single (extremely long) scroll of manuscript paper using a manual typewriter. Seriously. Amazing. Go here to see it.
