Ibiza It Up

There’s nowhere better to be in the summer than Ibiza. The Balearic Island is known for its stone-studded beaches and celeb-studded scene. Located a ferry hop from Barcelona, Ibiza’s all-star DJ lineup hits its zenith in August. Hear the world’s best DJ’s spin in their natural habitat as 10,000 people bounce to the beat at Amensia or Pacha, two of my favorite clubs in the world. Make sure you have a return flight, or you may just stay for a while.

Sleep it off.
International hipsters, famous DJs and their obligatory supermodel girlfriends sleep it off at the minimalist Ibiza Gran Hotel, where views of historic Dalt Vila and the Mediterranean Sea are as easy to come by as a glass of rosé on the cocktail terrace. Kick back over mojitos by the pools, or strike it lucky in the ground floor casino. For a more low-key stay, opt for the boutique Ocean Drive Hotel.

Bounce at Blue Marlin.
Having reached near-legendary status over the past five years, Cala Jondal’s hip, happening and hot beach bar Blue Marlin continues its ascension with a host of sexy day parties, after-dark delights and the addition of a swish sushi bar onsite. When the weekend hits and the jet set arrive en masse, resident DJs including hot new talent Tom Peppe unveil Blue Velvet, keeping the beach bar grooving from 1pm until midnight on Saturdays. On Sundays, Flamenco maestro Paco Fernandez brings his complete live show – dancers, decks, MCS and guitar – out onto the wooden decking as dusk falls.

Dance, Baby, Dance.
Ibiza is all about dancing ’til dawn (and even after on special occasions), and there’s no better place to cut some moves than Pacha, the world’s most famous nightclub.

Get hippy with it.
Having been a haven for hippies since the early ‘60s, it’s no surprise Ibiza’s rich bohemian history is still evident in places and there’s no place better than to embrace the free loving spirit than Las Dalias Hippy Market, every Saturday in the countryside of San Carlos. Bang on bongos and chill out at Benirras Beach – headbands are highly recommended.

Frock Up in Style.
Flex the plastic and indulge in some retail therapy, Ibiza-style. Ibiza’s very own designer label, Kurru Kurru, makes bespoke disco dresses, spangly bikinis and full-blown couture creations perfect for a week on the white isle.

Dine Alfresco.
There’s no better atmosphere than the magical garden restaurant space at Aura for dining on modern tapas under the stars, with the smell of thousands of jasmine blossoms permeating the air, seven nights a week.

Take a Chill Pill.
The Ibiza Gran’s Open Spa is among the island’s best relaxation havens, boasting hydrotherapy and a sports pool, sauna and hammam, plus the world’s finest therapists on hand to soothe the aches and pains caused by a day by the pool.

Delve into decadence.
Exotic belly dancers balancing (lit) candelabras on their heads, lithe, lace-clad acrobats swinging from the rafters, regal furnishings, a sleek, sophisticated sushi lounge, open-air garden terrace serving up a deluxe menu brimming with international flavour – El Ayoun.

Don’t forget to breathe.
Ibiza’s fast paced lifestyle means a little bit of mind, body and soul balance is essential – thankfully, the island’s famous energy also attracts the world’s best yoga teachers, wellness experts and healers. Book yourself in for some ‘me-time’ before hopping on the plane back home – you can thank us later.
